5 – 15 June at Goethe Institute Bulgaria / 1 Budapeshta Str
over 24 works by 13 artists and designers

The project is a visual remix of paintings by old Bulgarian masters. The ultimate goal is the search for a new Bulgarian visual identity and artistic language. The project suggests a certain way towards that goal: find what is still valuable today from the art of the old national masters and distill it into a contemporary form. The process is analogous to a DJ mixing an Elvis song into a drum'n'bass set.
Basic assumptions behind the concept:
1. Today Bulgaria desperately needs a new graphic identity. We used to have a unique visual language decades ago. Today, however, much of what we have is outdated remnants or contemporary imitations of foreign styles and ideas.

2. When two generations work along a common path they will reach further than any of them would achieve on their own. Assimilation of what our forefathers created into contemporary thought is a founding element of human progress. We simply use this naturally occuring process consciously and with a structured approach.
